Our Projects

Reproductive health

MTGK uses football as an entry point for our reproductive health programme.  We have 30 volunteer peer educators who carry out peer education sessions with girls’ football teams at tournaments and as completely separate activities.  Each team is visited six times.  The topics covered are:

  • Menstruation
  • Adolescence
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Decision making
  • Girl child rights
  • Problem posing (rape, incest)

Peer Educators

In each session the peer educators write down all the questions they have been asked.  This gives MTGK a better idea of what the concerns of the girls are.  We are making a resource book in Kiswahili to answer all the girls’ questions.

Mobile video shows

Peer educators do follow up mobile video shows to the teams which they have visited.  The videos they show are on decision making and HIV and AIDS.

Public performances and taking part in local events
The peer educators also take part in local events, such as during World AIDS Vaccine Day.  They often recite a poem, mududu, about HIV.

HIV/AIDS Work

MTGK members also get involved in community service by visiting local orphans’ homes, washing their clothes and playing football with the young orphans.
