MTGK presented a poster at the Sports and Development conference in Magglingen in Switzerland in December 2005.  We have also presented at the NOPE (National Organisation of Peer Educators) conference in Nairobi.  All these meetings and conferences provide excellent opportunities for girls to develop their leadership skills, confidence to communicate with people outside Kilifi and networking skills.

 Pemba Girls Playing for the First Time

In July 2006 7 girls and women from MTGK went on an exchange visit to Pemba, Tanzania.  This was so that the MTGK could help the girls in Pemba, which is a very strict Muslim community, become empowered about their reproductive health and rights.  This exchange visit was funded by the Ford Foundation.  The MTGK girls got the girls in Pemba playing football for the first time in their lives.  They were shy at first but by the end refused to leave the field and wanted to continue playing.  A return visit by the girls from Pemba to Kilifi is scheduled in September 2006.
