By cvandam - Posted on 06 August 2010

The MTG United under 16 team participated in the East Africa Cup that was be held in Moshi. Before the team traveled the girls played a wonderful build up match against Kilifi Town Mixed, the winner of MTG's secondary school tournament 2010. In the first half it was Kilifi Town Mixed that scored. They thought they had won the match, but forgot about Tatu Dungu, who scored three beautiful goals (3-1).

The team traveled with sixteen players and three leaders to the East African Cup. The girls enjoyed the workshops about topics such as conflict and resolution, coaching and laws of the game, first aid and sport injuries, Kicking Aids Out! and leadership and networking that were held every morning. One of the challenges for the team was that they had to play against teams that were older than fifteen year.

MTG lost the first two matches:

MTG - Chrisc Mwanzo 1 - 2,

 MTG - Mysa Ruaraka 0 - 4.

After that the girls decided that something had to change. They won the following matches:

MTG - Chrisc Voi 4 - 0,

 MTG - HODI 3 - 0.

The team qualified for the semi finals in which they beat Emima:

MTG - Emima 1 - 0.

The semi final against Moshi local was lost: MTG - Moshi local 0 - 2.

The match for the third/fourth position was exciting. The teams needed penalties to decide. MTG won!

MTG - Chrisc Eldoret 4 - 1.

A big achievement was that the girls took the Fair Play cup home to Kilifi. The girls have really something to be proud about!
