About Us

Volunteers
On a voluntary basis 30 peer educators have done wonders. They are peer educators, players, coaches and some of them are referees. They visit teams, talking to the other girls on reproductive health, rights of the girl child, decision making or in the field refereeing a match or coaching. 8 of the 30 are young single mothers.  Since becoming peer educators not one of the volunteers has become pregnant.  All these girls and the many others targeted by MTGK are saying: “Tunaweza” (Kiswahili for ‘we can do it’). Give us a chance.  If we can play football, coach, officiate a match, talk to our peers on reproductive health and our rights, then please give us a chance to participate in – decision making, leadership, management.  We need support from all of you out there for us to make our dreams come true.

v3Cocky van Dam, a VSO volunteer from Holland, joined in June 2005.  She is a footballer and a football coach and runs a coach the coach programme for MTGK. She is training girls to be coaches and good leaders.  She is also helping to kick start the divisional ‘super teams’ so that MTGK’s footballers become even better.
