Girls Committees
MTGK promotes girls’ participation in all decision making and organizing of activities.  The football leagues are run by committees at the field level.  In such a huge rural district with very poor communication and infrastructure it is essential to have representation on the ground.  In 2007 the committees are being restructured.  Each field committee now has 2 field leaders, who liaise regularly with the MTGK central office in Kilifi town, one referee, one first aider, one peer educator, one ambassador (a woman over 25 who supports MTGK and acts as a community liaison person) and two players’ representatives.  The committees organize all football league matches and health peer education activities that are carried out at the field level.  This builds their organization and negotiation skills and their confidence.

Peer Educators
